It's 8:00 am and the room is filled with the unfortunate students who drew the short straw for 1st period Math! I'm pretty sure that no one wants to listen to me standing up in front of the room droning on about Math concepts. Instead, we put the worksheets away and the textbooks back on the shelf and get ready to engage our learning with hands on projects. Student advice is solicited for project ideas as they relate to the concepts being studied. They are given the responsibility to formulate a project plan, develop a timeline, and create a rubric grading system. Group work is encouraged allowing students to face challenges, bridge relationships, work through conflict, and make decisions. The supplies I am requested will be used by the students to create math board games, posters, and geometric sculptures. We will use all of the art materials I am requesting to construct the board games. Glue, scissors, rulers, markers, and construction paper will be specifically used to create the boards for the games. The construction paper and markers are also used to make the deck of game cards which contain the math questions. The origami paper will be used specifically for those games using geometry. Concepts covered in the curriculum will be learned through hands on projects implemented and created by the students.
