Imagine sitting for 45 minutes, then moving for 5 minutes only to return to a seated position for another 45 minutes. I will bet you are thinking, "That would be terrible." You might be surprised to learn that the average U.S. student sits at school for approximately 4.5 HOURS A DAY. If you combine school time, driving time, and time spent doing homework, watching TV, and eating meals you will discover that kids sit for 85% of their waking hours! Studies show that providing students with the opportunity to stand and move during instruction promotes a more engaging classroom environment. Students who can shift their bodies and change position when needed stay focused, demonstrate more creativity, and improve their performance on classroom-based and standardized assessments. In addition, a movement rich environment improves classroom behavior and increases active learning and participation. Movement is important for all kids; however, it is imperative for students with ADHD. Please help me provide flexible seating options for my students. They are already working so hard to learn vital skills; I want to provide the best environment for them to do so. Thank you for your consideration.
