I am teaching a class of 17 remote kindergarten students. Each day, they request 'one (or two) more book(s).' Reading books to my students has given this class a sense of community. Since they are remote, they can not form connections with each other in a traditional way. They connect with each other over our read alouds. Books promote thought-provoking questions, respectful dialogue, and personal connections with the characters or the story. My goal this year is to read age-appropriate books that spark conversations about gender, racial and economic inequalities that exist in our society. I want to help teach students to be inclusive, kind, and empathetic to all; breaking gender, race, and economic bias barriers. I want to help create upstanders, and change-makers. The ipad stand will serve well for our synchronous remote learning sessions. I can use it for our morning meeting time as well as read alouds and guided reading. It will be a welcome addition to our class! I want to make an impact. My read alouds now include parents, caregivers, siblings, and pets all watching me read through google meets. Learning can be profound and I have to opportunity to reach more than just my students. Thank you for considering!
