My goal each year is provide a classroom environment that is a place my students feel loved, accepted, challenged, comfortable, and encouraged. With having a co-teaching classroom I have found that each of my students have very individual needs. Flexible seating is a way that helps meet individual needs of each student as they decide what they need to learn best. Flexible seating is when different options of seating is available to students and they do not have a set spot. The wobble stools and soft seats provide two options. The wobble seats are great for all types of learners. It provides movement if needed while they are busy working. I have tried to use exercise balls for the same concept but find students have a hard time balancing. These stools are easy for students to sit on, but provides the movement needed to encourage full concentration on learning. Soft seats allow student who prefer to learn on the floor to be able to do so comfortably. The wobble chairs and soft seats are light and easy to move around the room as needed. The students become more self aware as they manage which seating option helps drives their learning. It also takes out the insecurity that most students feel if sitting at a desk is not what works best for them. It eliminates distraction also, as the kiddo finds a spot they are comfortable so they can focus solely on learning. Flexible seating also lets the student know that they are supported in their different styles of learning. It is just another way to contribute to the safe and secure feeling that we want students to have when walking in a school building.
