My wish is for all students in my 11th grade Advanced Algebra class to have access to a graphing calculator on a daily basis. At present few of my students have been able to purchase a graphing calculator of their own, others have scientific (non-graphing) calculators, and I have a classroom set of 8 graphing calculators (for which I supply the batteries). I wish for all 20 students in a class to have access to their own chargeable graphing calculator. This will allow the whole class to focus on the concepts and applications related to modeling real scenarios with quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and periodic functions as we save some of the time needed to crank out solutions by hand. Furthermore, daily graphing calculator use will enable students to prepare for Calculus and college level mathematics and to gain fluency in graphing technology's affordances for problem solving. The color screen will also provide visual support to many students.
