My students come to me with a wide range of reading ability and motivation to read. My job as an educator is to guide my students to want to read. By teaching my students tips and tricks to choosing the "just right" book, they feel confident that they will be successful when they crack open their book. My classroom library is broken down by reading level. Students are given their reading range and choose a book that they are interested from that reading level range. Students track their reading on a reading log, they practice writing summaries, set reading goals, monitor their reading of multiple genres using bar graphs, and share what they are reading with the classmates. Reading has become the backbone to our classroom. The students actually beg to read. I have plenty of challenging chapter books but not enough in the reading level range of 16-24 (which is where a typical second grade student should be reading). So to meet the needs of my students I am requesting these books!
