I teach Social Studies with a unit on Economics to 8th graders. Most of my students have little experience with economics, but really want to learn. I started a year long economics unit in which the students learn about checking accounts, budgeting, savings accounts and retirements, stocks/market, ect. I give my students jobs and they get paid. They have to pay bills and with their left over money I have an auction of items they have requested. Some items are larger amounts, so here's where I need some help, buying items for that auction. The kids are learning to budget their money to get what they really want via the auction. Economics is truly important and this unit helps the students learn a life skill of how to budget their money.
