I believe that an engaged learner is a successful learner. In order to help students be more actively engage we must provide them with a comfortable and flexible learning environment, that fits the needs of all students. No one enjoys sitting in the same place for hours on end, yet this is what we expect children to do daily. My students naturally like to move around the room and work in non-traditional seats. These flexible seating options will allow my students to be more comfortable in their learning environment. I have chosen a variety of seating options in order to reach maximum engagement by all learners. Several of my students tend to wiggle around in their chairs which is why I have chosen wobble stools, wobble cushions, and yoga balls for them to sit on. I also have chosen normal stools for the students who enjoy stability but do not want to constantly sit in their chairs. I have noticed that several of my students enjoy working on the floor. To accommodate this I have selected a coffee table and pillows for students to work around. I have also requested three sets of bed risers to create three standing desks in my classroom. This is for students who prefer to stand while working rather than sit. The final sections are for students who enjoy a more relaxed setting. I have chosen two moon chairs and two adjustable floor seats. I have similar options like this in my room already and my students love them! I believe that providing students with choices in where to sit will maximize engagement from all types of students.
