High School Engineering students will be able to use the materials from this project with our flight simulator software to better understand the requirements it takes for a pilot to safely navigate and keep their plane in the air. Aerospace students will be able to gain true pilot experience. These different components will allow the students to have to monitor multiple different gauges and settings of the airplane and use actual radio navigation to get from point A to point B on the simulator. Currently the students have a small joystick that allows them to fly the plane and change the direction of the plane. However, there are so many different tasks that take place while flying. There are over 10 gauges in a plane that must be monitored to make sure the plane is safely flown. The items being purchased for this project are all Saitek Pro Flight products. All products will work with our current flight simulator and control system we have. The Cessna Trim Wheel is a piece of equipment that will allow the students to adjust the trim tabs on their plane when in windy weather on the simulator. This is like aligning the tires on your car for a smooth straight ride. The switch panel allows the students to raise and lower their landing gear, turn on plane lights and control the amount of power to their engines. The radio panel is a key feature for navigation in a plane. The radio panel allows students to set their plane to a specific "radio station" corresponding to a location on a map. Using the radio panel and one of the multi panel gauges the student can track their course to make sure they are going in the correct direction to reach their destination.
