During our literacy block, students practice reading to themselves, reading to a partner, and listening to reading. The technology I currently have for listening to reading is an outdated cassette player, and often doesn't work properly. Listening to reading is a crucial component in developing students' literacy. It is essential for them to hear books read fluently and with expression so that they have a good model to follow when they practice their own reading. Plus, they love to hear stories! My school district subscribes to a digital reading program, but I currently have no way to access it for my students. The Kindle Fires and headphones will allow my students to utilize this valuable resource.
