We are creating an outdoor school garden in an effort to reach more of our students, many of whom have not always enjoyed school. This new Farm to Table initiative will also allow a greater number of students to explore careers and interests in agro-science and nutrition. Students will be doing hands-on work, growing fruits, vegetables and flowers from seeds to productive plants. This will include planting seeds, transferring seedlings to the beds, learning about irrigation, measuring soil pH, exploring the impact of seasons, weather and global climate change on farming and agriculture, among other things. The tools we have requested are instrumental in creating and maintaining a functioning greenhouse, raised vegetable beds and a pollinator garden. We are creating these things to work symbiotically with our outdoor classroom and to give our students greater buy-in to our school's initiative to teach about careers in agro-science and nutrition. Giving our students an opportunity to have authentic experiences will make an immeasurable difference in their lives and forever change the way that they think about the food that they eat.
