I’m always looking for intriguing new ways to introduce more STEM learning into my students’ educations. Breakout boxes will give students a fun way to access STEM activities. The locked boxes require learners to apply problem solving strategies to real-world or collaborative contexts. Working in small groups while racing against the clock, students will answer puzzles and make sense of clues in order to solve the mystery. Several items are needed for each breakout box, including both a large and small breakout box, a wide variety of locks, hidden contraptions and diversion hardware, invisible ink pens and an UV flashlight, and USB thumb drive, as well as clue cards. These locked boxes are all one needs to play the hundreds of free games provided to teachers online. Teachers and students can also create original breakout games. Breakout boxes will help my students grow as scientist, mathematicians, collaborators, creative thinkers, and problem solvers! The boxes will also allow for more engagement in STEM activities. Throughout the task, students will work on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Communication skills will also be strengthened while teams work towards a common goal. Breakout boxes are a fantastic way to get my students excited and engaged in STEM learning!
