The world we live in and how we view it has changed within the last few years, especially in light of COVID-19. My students reading skills have been low for years, but COVID-19 has only heightened this. With how much school time they lose because of quarantining, they aren't getting the access they need to good books in which they can explore the world and escape their struggles. Giving students high quality, diverse texts will help my students learn more about the world around them while escaping into a good book and practicing their reading skills.
