I teach 7th grade science to approximately 90 students in a high-needs school in rural Arkansas. All students receive free lunch. The sad reality is that my students face great challenges in learning science. In elementary school (K-6), math and literacy are heavily emphasized, so students enter junior high school with little knowledge of science. Many students also have below-grade-level reading and math skills
