The use of wobble chairs and ball seats within my classroom will help provide students with extra movement opportunities during instructional time. This will help increase student attention, engagement and physical development. Often young children are expected to sit still for long periods of time during instruction and their little bodies are not developmentally ready to do that. This is where inattentiveness and behavior problems can occur. Utilizing flexible seating provides students with physical movement that their growing bodies crave without taking away from instructional time. Our recess time is limited to 15 minutes per day. That is a small amount of physical activity for growing bodies and minds. Wobble and ball chairs will be very useful in providing that extra stimulation for students physically which will translate into greater attentiveness and achievement.
