I am in my 9th year of teaching at SWA and no year has ever been the same. Education is an ever evolving field so the school library has changed dramatically. Yes, I still have books and I am the consummate advocate for literacy, but I also support project-based learning both in the classroom and in the library. Today's library is a hub of learning activity and it may not be quiet--no shushing here! Last year, I jumped on the Makerspace bandwagon, thanks to funding from Donors Choose so I have a designated area for creative play and discovery. On any given day in the school library, my students are checking out and returning books, reading/relaxing with magazines, books or eBooks, playing Minecraft or board games, building with Legos, as well as researching or creating on computers.
