I am implementing Next Generation Science Standards in my classroom. Students are exploring science principles using science and engineering practices to discover disciplinary core content. One of the targeted science and engineering practices that my students learn is how to create an arguement from evidence. The Chromebooks are a necessary tool my students need to create effective arguments. They will use the internet to find supporting evidence that support their claims as well as opposing views. Also, they will use Chromebook applications and Web 2.0 programs to synthesize the information into final products. They will share the products locally with classmates, teachers, parents, and community members in live presentations using Skype. In addition, they will share findings worldwide with scientific comunities. For example, students research viruses and create an arguement as to whether viruses should considered living or non-living. They will share their findings and opinion with the open tree of life scientific community for consideration.
