Flexible seating is a way for students to pick the location where they want to work for the day. It will provide them with choices that will promote learning within the classroom. When students feel that they have a voice within their own education, then positive results are seen not only academically but also in behavior and social situations. The materials needed for flexible seating in the classroom would provide opportunities for students to take ownership in part of their learning. It may be that some students choose to sit at a stool, while others work best while sitting on mats on the floor. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Flexible seating also allows students to quickly and easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class. Learning environments can have a direct impact on student achievement. I will establish some new classroom management tools that includes creating a system to make seating choices fair and nondisruptive. Flexible seating can make learning fun. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Because of all these benefits, I want to provide the best learning environment that I can for my students!
