This year, my class will begin to use The Daily 5 program. Daily 5 stresses student reading independence from a very young age. Students select "good fit" books, books that are both interesting and age appropriate for them. They will then take their collection of "good fit" books and find a comfy spot to read their books. During Daily 5 time, students may find any spot, anywhere in the classroom and read their books. They may sit on the classroom carpet or in their seats but they can also sit under a table or in a quiet corner. The floor cushions will provide the students with a comfy place to enjoy their books, while they become independent readers.
