To unlock and expand children's minds and reintroduce them to their untapped creativity which a testing environment has clearly taken away. I am a middle school teacher from California teaching in a high-needs, low-income and transient community. When i began teaching here 5 years ago as a new teacher, I noticed one thing missing, an art program. Art had slowly disappeared from the district with the pressure mounting to raise test scores. This year I have been given the opportunity to teach 3 periods of Art, along with 2 Algebra classes I teach. The 3 art classes are a mixture of 7th and 8th grade students. While its great having these classes, I have become very limited in the types of projects we can create.
