Dialogic reading helps my students build vocabulary, tell stories through pictures, learn the structure of stories, make connections and predictions. My students are learning the beginning skills of reading through dialogic reading. The books purchased for my classroom would teach my students essential foundational skills for reading. These stories engage my students while expanding their vocabulary and love for reading. These books are specifically picked to teach basic reading concepts, higher level questions and allow my students to think deeper. During dialogic reading is about engaging my students in stories and teaching them a love for reading. During dialogic reading, my students are in groups of 4-5 students. This allows all of the students to make connections and predictions about the story. During dialogic reading, students are touching the pictures and making personal connections to their own lives. We stay with the same dialogic reading book for up to four weeks. This allows time for picture walking, reading, students telling the story and extension activities. I often share books with the teacher next door or borrow books from the library. It can be challenging sharing and borrowing books when using the book for so many weeks. Having my own copies of these books will allow me to use the books when needed throughout the entire year.
