My kindergartners have been making books using a 5 step publishing project. We write, edit, illustrate and publish our creations as part of our reading and writing block. Then we decorate the covers with jewels, and share them with each other in our class library. Before this happens, we need to investigate our subject matters. We have seen some books about how our bodies work, but we would like to take our exploration to a "real life" model. Healthy hearts, lungs, and muscles are one of the keys to long life. I want to teach my students about the systems in their bodies, and how to take care of them. We will focus on nutrition and exercise, culminating with a "Celebration of our Bodies" Day. Parent and community members will be invited to share healthy snacks, tips for getting enough sleep, and ways to incorporate healthy exercise and snacking routines into a family lifestyle. In addition to models of the human body and stethoscopes, I am asking for a rug with defined spaces that will assist my children in learning about personal space as we add daily stretches and cardio and core/strength training exercises into our physical education routine. It will also provide a soft space for us to incorporate yoga once a week into our kindergarten day/
