As of right now, I have multicolored duct tape on the floor to block off spaces for students to sit at during morning meeting and minilessons. A carpet will benefit students immensely, by providing a safe and calming space, where each student has her or his own spot to sit as we gather together. During morning meeting, students will have a safer and more comfortable place to learn. During math and science time, this space will be a place to come together as we share, discuss and celebrate student work. It will also be a space where students can assemble to participate in minilessons. As seen in the photo for this project, we also play music and sing together on Fridays. A carpet for the classroom would provide an excellent space for what has come to be known as, "Super Happy Music Fun Time Fridays."
