Students in my class are well below grade level in reading and writing. One way I hope to bring them closer to grade level is by increasing their sight word knowledge and automaticity. Once my students have a higher sight word knowledge base, they will be able to apply strategies to read more difficult texts, as well as incorporate their sight words across writing units of study. Having better sight word knowledge will give my students the confidence they need to be successful in my class. Having literacy games to build sight word knowledge will make it fun and engaging. The materials I am asking for will be used for literacy centers. Students will participate in whole-group instruction and then be able to break up into differentiated groups, based on need, and work on their centers. The cushions I am asking for will be used so that students can go to comfy spots in the room and work on their center. It will help motivate and engage the students by "playing" literacy games!
