My students will benefit from the set of timers because we do many labs throughout the year that require students to measure time. Currently we do not have timers for individual groups, students use the clock on the wall or I call out the times for them to record measurements. A timer in each group would give students opportunities to take their own time measurements and have more ownership of the data that they collect. The Earth Movements kit will provide concrete evidence of an abstract concept. My students will be studying plate tectonics and processes that have changed Earth's surface over time. These are very slow movements that are difficult to imagine, predict, or recreate. This kit provides safe, hands-on materials that can be used to model the processes of plate motions, uplift of large mountain ranges, as well as rapid changes such as earthquakes and volcanoes. My students will be engaged while learning in a fun, safe environment.
