My project of asking for an iPad for the art room is two-fold. Last year we started using Artsonia which is the world's largest online art gallery for kids. It is a wonderful resource to document and store student work. Students create online galleries that they can then share with friends and family. Viewers can comment on the work and give positive encouragement to their budding artists. It also allows parents and myself to see an entire body of student work through not only the school year but through the years. Having an iPad station in the art room would allow students to be able to upload their own artwork and take ownership of the process. In addition, with the aide of technology and an iPad, students would be able to explore such art content as stop animation, photography, and computer generated art. This would greatly enhance the elementary art curriculum to add to the 21st century learning that will take place, while also allowing students to experiment with art processes that may have been difficult with more traditional media. It is also very exciting for the students to be able to create in a non restrictive environment that the iPad and computer art will allow. Another wonderful thing about having an iPad is that it is mobile and can travel with me between schools.
