This year I have the privilege of teaching form The Units of Study Readers Workshop by Lucy Calkins. It is an amazing program set up to cultivate the love of reading in students. My students desperately need leveled books in different genres, by different authors to make this program work. Every child will be reading at their own level. This is not a "one size fits all" program. Each child will need multiple books at their reading and interest level to make this program work. When students read a book at their own comfortable level, the learning can proceed. To make this program successful, each student needs 3-4 books each.
