My students are sharing 5 desktop computers and several laptops. The laptops we currently use are falling apart and sometimes do not work properly. My students have to share or choose a different activity when the computers aren't working properly. One area my students are struggling with is reading and writing. With these laptops my students can access online reading through the Newsela website. This website offers the latest news articles leveled for students. There is a read aloud feature that can help students who are struggling read this real world text. After reading the articles students will take comprehension tests on the articles. My students produce several writing pieces throughout the year on a variety of topics and genres. These laptops will be used to publish their work through Google Docs.
