Microwave ovens have been around for decades and most people are familiar with their daily uses to prepare and warm foods. Why not take this everyday appliance to a higher level of learning? The traditional art room is full of drawing and painting units, yet students are eager to work with a wide variety of materials. Students will learn how heat is used to form glass, how to safely cut glass sheets and how to fuse pieces together using a glass kiln and a microwave oven in the classroom to create their own personalized glass bead or tile.
