As a special education teacher, I work with students who have many different needs, and who require many supports in order to access learning. The students I work with have many challenges when it comes to learning, communication, behavior and social skills. These materials will greatly enhance their learning and school experiences.
Many of these items will serve to accommodate the diverse needs of my students. The BigMack communication switch will help a student who is nonverbal have a voice when interacting with members of the school community. Many of the sensory tools will help my students remain calm and regulated, and thus able to participate more in classroom activities. The sand table and educational games and toys will allow my students to access multisensory learning opportunities. The adaptive crayons will allow my students with fine motor difficulties to color and draw more easily.
Each of the unique items I am seeking through this project will make learning easier and more enjoyable for the unique learners that I work with each day. It is my goal to find my students' strengths, and channel those to help them learn and grow. These items were selected based on their needs and strengths, and I am excited to watch my kids continue to grow through using these materials!
