My classroom lacks a collection of nonfiction books. Students are currently learning about main idea and supporting details but we need books that are of their interest and easy to read. The Seedlings Book Series are a perfect match for our nonfiction unit. The format of these books are perfect for my English language learners because they are written in simple sentences and the pictures capture their attention. The effects of reading on child development is tremendously important; therefore, I want my students to have the opportunity to have good quality books that will expand their understanding of the world. This book series will be used for our nonfiction unit covering topics such as learning about text features, main idea, supporting details, mentor text for all about books, building background knowledge and as formative assessment on comprehension skills to apply what they have learned to their own writing.
