My students have the opportunity to access laptops for 30 minutes a day during math class. This is an incredible luxury that allows me as the teacher to differentiate math learning to the various academic levels of my students. Students get to work through online blended learning programs that target skills and knowledge they may be lacking from previous grade levels or to be challenge by beyond grade level work to extend their learning. Having access to a class set of headphones will allow my students to access a wide variety of blended learning sites that target their needs. Currently, because students are working on various levels of different programs, they need to work with the sound off on their laptops. Though the lessons are differentiated by content, without headphones, I am less able to individualize instruction to meet the needs of my diverse classroom. Learning without sound is challenging for my auditory learners who are forced to work only with visuals provided and written explanations. Learning without sound is challenging for my students who are nonreaders. Learning without sound is a challenge for my students who do not speak English as their first language. Having a class set of headphones will allow my students to fully access online programs and better meet their needs. Headphones will allow for a more engaging experience for all my students when interacting with websites.
