A chicken with 4 legs??? I teach preschool through 5th grade art in an urban elementary school. Elementary students make art based on memory, observation or imagination, and I've noticed that ordinary birds (including chickens!) as portrayed by my students have been looking a little too imaginary lately... I've seen a few with 4 feet! My students would greatly benefit from waiting for and seeing eggs hatch. The beautiful math and science of the egg lends itself to a viable long-term art focus resulting in an up close and personal view of real, live chickens for each of my young artists.
