My students are extremely excited to join in the First Lego League robotics challenges but we have run into a problem. Last school year was our first year as a team and interest has grown exponentially. With one robot and a million lego pieces only one team member can work on actually programing the 'bot'. Having one student who was obviously a born engineer, he is the default.
Taking turns just does not seem to work when the end goal is to have one set of programs that do it all. I just cannot seem to find a way to give them experience without adding more robots to our collection. I have up to ten students kind of waiting around to take a turn using EV3 software with the bot.
Robotics is giving my students a great deal of experience with real world problem solving. As they see new technology develop in the world they are starting to take notice and question the developmental process. I want for them to be more than just blind technology consumers. I want them to question, critique, expand, and create.
