The children in our emotional support classrooms have a difficult time remaining seated for 6 hours a day. Allowing them to move a bit while they learn makes a huge difference in their progress. We want to provide a classroom with flexible seating and create an environment that will meet each of their unique needs. Comfortable seating addresses the sensory needs that are often present in children who have been diagnosed with ADHD. We have seen the positive effect chairs that allow some movement has had on children with autism and believe they can have the same effect on children whose bodies need to constantly be in motion. A number of our students desperately want to fit in and assimilate with their peers who can sit for extended periods of time, but they simply cannot do it. These stools will increase the duration of time the children remain seated and focused on their work. We are striving to build a classroom that addresses the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and physical needs of our children with behavior concerns.
