As are most districts, we are currently financially strapped, unable to fully fund AP. Our school is comprised of lower income students, receiving free and reduced lunch. Most work full time jobs to help out their families and pay for their own clothing and food. Unlike the stereotype, my students want to learn. I try to foster a community of learners and love of books. A few of my students seek current books, but most do not have the resources to do so. They do not always have transportation or time to go to the public library and our school library does not have the funding to keep current titles on the shelves. Our student body is diverse. My own classes range from African-Americans to Hispanics, Asians to Bengalis, Iraqis to Indians, and Gypsies to Bosnians, just to name a few. My current students have lived all over the globe and it's not uncommon to hear them speaking other languages in the classroom. I am also a student to their ways and customs. It's a fabulous place to work
