My resource students need to have lots of practice and multi-sensory approaches in order to be able to learn and maintain reading and math skills. I am requesting manipulatives and games that can be used for both math and reading at multiple grade levels. Some of the counters I have ordered help my younger students with my younger students for sorting and counting activities. My older students use them for learning fractions. I also have games that will help my older kids be willing to practice phonics skills. The last important item I need is a charging station for my iPads. Currently, we are trying to keep them charged using one or two chargers with the few outlets in the room. It would be so helpful to charge them all at once. My students struggle to keep up with their regular education peers and have often had multiple negative experiences trying to learn. Many of them have built walls to protect themselves emotionally and do everything they can to avoid having anyone find out that they can't do something the rest of the class can do. I have found that concrete materials, extra multi-sensory practice and games are a good way to reach them and help them build a solid understanding of each concept. These materials will give me additional ways to help my students practice. If we play a game my students will work harder and solve so many more problems than if we do worksheets. If worksheets aren't working for them in the regular education class I can't expect them to get it using the same worksheet just because they are in my classroom.
