All first-grade students will use these math manipulatives in math workshop. This is a highly engaging time in our daily math where students work in partnerships and groups to have hands-on experience in their learning. Students are excited to show what they know and learn from each other. Having these Geoblocks means that students in groups can compare sizes of shapes, faces, corners, and sides. Additionally, this allows them to adequately see how shapes can be composed and decomposed. A good, effective education should be hands-on. My first-graders are responsible and eager to learn and explore in a hands-on way. By giving our students these manipulatives, we are showing that we value their ideas and understand their need to learn in many ways.
