Hello My name is Ms. E and I teach 1st grade in a rural school. Our school serves predominately minority populations. Most of our students receive free or reduced lunches. Access to libraries, and community centers are difficult because of our rural location. This year we have started a coding class for our afterschool program. I want to start projects that are math and science oriented for my students. Integrating Lego's seems very practical for first graders. They are a very curious age group and kinesthetic(working with their hands) activities work well. I want my students to be able to look at the world through many perspectives and science technology, engineering and math are great academic focuses. I plan to complete project based activities with my students with and emphasis on STEM.
