These books will be used as read alouds and then given to students for them to enjoy during independent reading time. They are meant to paint diverse pictures of the world around my students. They are meant to foster empathy and understanding for cultures and ideals that are different than the rural midwestern area we live in. They are also for helping students learn about things they are not traveling to see. As we have more and more students below the poverty line, the students come with less and less life experiences like zoos, museums, and aquariums their parents would take them too. Help me bring that to them inside my classroom.
