Most literature that is the curriculum does not reflect my student's experiences or their background. I strive to utilize texts that will ennoble and reinforce ideas that will lead them to success. This is done through self-reflection, analysis of characters, and project based writings that they use to tell their stories. My students are incarcerated and I strive to ensure that they have skills that show improvement in the writing, thinking and ability to access and problem solve so that when they leave me they are better citizens. We have limited resources (most texts I purchase myself) so this helps tremendously.
