These materials will be used to create three different Breakout Edu kits, allowing us to "Breakout" of the traditional academic structure by playing "escape room" type games (breakouts). Each kit contains a locked box and different types of locks (directional, word, numbers). Students solve curriculum-related puzzles in small groups in order to find the combinations to the locks and open the box. These "breakouts" teach teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting by presenting participants with challenges that ignite their natural drive to problem-solve. K-12 Breakouts can be used to teach core academic subjects including math, science, history, language arts and have embedded standards that apply problem solving strategies within a real world OR collaborative context.
