This year, my 1st-grade team, is teaching the NGSS standards for Science. Because these standards are quite different from the State Standards we have been using, I need LOTS of materials to teach effectively. One goal of the NGSS standards is for children to find the answers to questions by investigating. In order to do this, students will be interacting with materials that I have given them. For example, one afternoon students may be given the following question: Why does the sun rise and set each day? To find the answer, students can experiment with a foam ball, flashlight, and tack pushed into the ball representing Montana. The flashlight would act as the sun and the foam ball would be the earth. Throughout the investigation, students would discover that the earth spins, causing the sun to rise and set. Students will not be able to investigate in this way unless they are given materials to do so; this is where you come in! Thank you in advance for your generous donation!
