I see the future and it is bright. I love teaching and am proud that I have taught for twenty years! What is amazing to me is that each year children seem to be more and more excited about learning. My classroom is filled with an amazing, positive, excited synergy for learning. There is a momentum ( a buzz) for knowledge in my classroom and with access to more technology it will continue to grow and grow. I want to give my students what they need to keep this going here and beyond. The first reason I need more access to technology daily in my class is my #20time projects. Every Friday students will be working on their own, personal 20time project. According to Daniel Pink, in his book Drive, people are motivated by autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Many teachers have adopted this into an innovative educational movement called #20time or genius hour. Last year, was my first year doing this program and the end results blew me away. My students wrote novels, edited and shot historical movies, created a variety of art, researched local history, coded history based games, designed homes with 3-D architecture design programs, and became brighter, bolder, and truly more excited about life and learning. With access to technology daily in my class I will continue to give my learners what they need. In addition to #20time, if I had a chrome book or surface for every student, I would be able to fully utilize the Active Classroom resources purchased by my district. This amazing data base of online readings that I can assign in class or for homework digitally take reading about history to where it should be. Our current textbook is ten years old and has inaccuracies through out.
