In our junior high, students benefit greatly by lessons that tie to the real world. As many of them have overcame the tornado tragedy, they have become more inspired to learn through the use of current news' topics. Everything from personal interest stories to world issues have been the focus of lessons in our classroom this year, thanks to the subscriptions to the New York Times' Upfront magazine. The heated debates, as well as thoughtful discussions, have lead students to search out additional information outside of school and bring back new knowledge to share with classmates. An engaged learning environment... a teacher's dream!
