The modern board game can change lives by encouraging a generation of students to have positive social interactions and engage each other intellectually in a non-academic setting. All the students in the club are from the inner city and among these students is a senior with significant autism who is thrilled with the opportunity to have this experience which he could not otherwise afford. In order to accomplish this, our club will need an assortment of board games so that the students in the club can be exposed to a variety of game types. Students will spend each week learning about a particular game's themes and mechanics, read about specific game designers, and will then play games featuring that theme/mechanic in an effort to understand how they work. Students will then spend the last part of the semester designing, producing, and play-testing their own board games for display at our end of semester project fair.
