I am so lucky to teach 5th graders math. Some of it is hard to understand. Teaching these students is my joy in life. As a second-year teacher, I do not have all of the supplies that my kids need to understand. Manipulatives will help my 5th-grade students to figure out fractions and decimals in math. With unfix cubes, they are able to see parts of a whole. Fraction strips help them see that 1/2 and 2/4 are the same number just look different. Without them, many of them can't seem to figure it out. I want them to have the items to touch and feel and move. I want them to have a step up with these math aids.
