I teach 3rd grade at a low income/high poverty school. I already know some of my students face different challenges in and outside of school. I want my students to know that this school is always a safe and positive learning environment. Creating a positive classroom environment requires students to trust teachers and feel cared about. My students are always willing to challenge themselves. I am working on instilling growth mindsets rather than fixed mindsets in my students by telling them it's okay to make mistakes because we learn from them and that no matter how hard something may be that we just need to say, "We can do hard things." I do not want them to give up on something that may be challenging. My students are my joy and I am so glad that each of them is in my class. All I want is the best for my students. I also think it is important to teach students to think outside themselves.
