Currently, my students' chairs are broken and uncomfortable for our students. As a public school, our funding gets lower every year and cannot accommodate the replacement of worn out desks and chairs. In addition, over 90% of our students are on free/reduced lunch. The lower income level of our community does not allow us to ask for parent contributions. A successful learning environment is one in which the students feel safe and comfortable to learn. I try to foster an engaging classroom where my students can achieve their best. However, sitting in a broken chair digging into your skin is distracting! New chairs will give them a place to sit that will help them be comfortable and safe throughout the school day. The purpose of this project is to give my students all of the tools they need to be successful this year, and being able to sit comfortably at their desks is a priority.
