All of my students get excited about hands on projects. I asked each one of them to write down something they wish we could do in class. Overwhelmingly the response was dissection. The students loved getting dirty in our classroom garden, and they loved doing a hands on blood typing lab. They are curious about many things. These scientific supplies would allow them to investigate the natural world as well as build a love for biology before they go to high school. Students learn best, when they are fully engaged. My students are engaged when they get an opportunity to do something they have never done before, or see something they have never seen before. These supplies will enable us to build our own classroom insect collection, as well as dissect an earthworm. Doing a dissection in the 8th grade will give my students the advantage of knowing how to use lab equipment properly before they go to high school. Lab skills are building blocks of making scientists. They will be able to observe some body systems and learn about invertebrates. It is imperative to get students interested in science at a young age so that they may carry it on throughout their college careers.
